Death Certificates for the Dublin Area
No Post-Mortem / Autopsy:
If the death occurs in a hospital/hospice, the medical records department in the hospital/hospice will forward the medical paperwork (medical certificate) to the next-of-kin who must then bring it to the Registrars’ Office which is located at Lucia House, (left-hand side of Joyce House) 8/11 Lombard Street East, (off Pearse Street), Dublin 2, (Ph: 01 671 1968) to register the death and obtain a death certificate at the same time. It is advisable to get several death certificates.
If a GP is to issue the medical certificate (when the death has occurred in a house or nursing home) then the next-of-kin must obtain it from the GP, and bring it to the Registrar’s Office at Lombard Street East to register the death and obtain death certificates as described above.
Post-Mortem / Autopsy:
If a post-mortem/autopsy has taken place then the coroner will send the medical paperwork to the Registrar’s office. This usually takes 8-12 weeks, however, the coroner can issue an interim death certificate if required depending on where the death occurred. To obtain an interim death certificate please contact the Dublin City Coroner at 01- 8743006.

Kildare (Ph: 045 887671) to register the death and obtain a death certificate at the same time. It is advisable to get several death certificates.
